East High School Library

Green Bay East High School is a public high school serving students in the east side of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Approximately 1,200 students attend East High School each year. East High is the oldest high school in Green Bay, with its first class graduating in 1925. The school’s City Stadium was the home of the Green Bay Packers from 1925-1956. East High has an impressive history, but the staff is always looking to the future for ideas about how to better serve their students.

The Problem

As any parent or teacher knows, it’s next to impossible to hold a teenager’s attention. The standard high school library, with its desktop computers, study tables, and printers, is hardly a source of excitement for students. After receiving a $15,000 grant from the Green Bay Packers Foundation, East High decided to use it for library renovations that would increase interest among students by making the space more relevant and current for today’s teenagers.

Our Solution

East High’s library media specialist, Julie Ollman, purchased two FlexiSpot Deskcise Pro All-in-One desk bikes. She installed them in the East High library for a test run to gauge student interest. The Deskcise Pro allows you to adjust pedal resistance, see how far you’ve biked, and track how many calories you’ve burned—and the bikes are virtually soundless, perfect for a library. The desk bikes have been very popular with students, who like being able to get homework done and exercise at the same time. Even the principal is a fan, so it looks like East High students can expect to see more library desk bikes after the renovation.
